Emilie Hiller (1871–1943)

The daughter of SPD district councillor Gustav Kittler grew up in the Labour Movement and married Heinrich Hiller, a social democrat, in 1890. Together, they ran the “Ritter” restaurant on Frankfurter Strasse, later a café and restaurant named “Victoria”. Both were popular meeting places among members of the social democratic party.

In 1908 Emilie Hiller co-founded the SPD women’s group in Heilbronn, in 1919 she was a member of the Württemberg Constituent Assembly. Until 1933 she served as a member of the State Parliament (Landtag) and the SPD party executive in Württemberg.

Their restaurant was owned by the SPD-affiliated “Vereinsdruckerei” printing shop and was expropriated by the Nazi Party in 1933. Subsequently, Emilie and Heinrich Hiller retired.
