Jäklein Rorbach (around 1495-1525)

Jäklein Rorbach who was born in Böckingen was one of the Unterland protagonists of the 1525 Peasants’ War.

Even in the years and months before the revolt, dissatisfied peasants rallied around Rorbach, who saw to the spreading of the “Twelve Articles of the Peasantry”. On 2 April 1525 the Unterland troops elected him their leader. Fourteen days later he played a leading role in the “Massacre of Weinsberg”.

During the Battle of Böblingen Jäklein Rorbach was captured by the army of the Swabian League and burnt alive on 21 May 1525 near Neckargartach.
